Homiletics – Creative and Impactful Preaching

Rev. Donna E. Allen, PhD was as an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church for fifteen years serving as a pastor in Tennessee, Missouri and California. Rev. Allen is currently the Founder and Senior Pastor of New Revelation Community Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America with ministries in Oakland and Vallejo California. Dr. Allen has taught in a number of graduate schools preparing persons for ministry. Including: Saint Paul School of Theology a United Methodist Seminary in Kansas City, MO; Lancaster Theological Seminary of the United Church of Christ in Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Pacific School of Religion and American Baptist Seminary of The West, in Berkeley, CA; San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, CA and currently at Pacific Lutheran Theological seminary in Berkeley, CA.

Cost:$100 for credit for Commissioned Ruling Elder Candidates
$40 to audit and open to all
Class Description: This course will explore some basic exegetical skills for preaching and creative components of impactful preaching. Students will create and preach a brief sermonic component in the class and engage in constructive reflection with one another.
